(Cabedelo / Beach / Distance 15,0 km)
One of the most iconic places in João Pessoa is certainly the Jacaré sunset in Cabedelo, which is actually located on the Paraíba River, and got its name from a local legend, and ended up becoming the theme of a place full of colors, good food, lots of handicrafts, tree restaurants overlooking the river, many sculptures of Lampião, Maria Bonita, wild animals and of course the alligator is everywhere!
At around 4:30 p.m., several catamarans leave the pier full of tourists and on each boat there is a crew dressed in character as cangaceiros, acting out the story of Lampião and Maria Bonita, interacting with the tourists by doing some activities and dances, making the wait for sunset a very pleasant moment.
There on the pier, people wait for the show, both of the sun and of the saxophonist, and the impression you get in front of the river is of being part of a painting, a spectacle of colors, with seagulls flying and the vegetation by the river, all in perfect sync.
From 5pm, when the sun begins to set, a saxophonist called Jurandir do Sax wanders along the waters of the Paraíba River in a canoe. Standing in the canoe, he continues to play Ravel's "Bolero" and at 6pm he plays "Ave Maria".
When the sunset is over, the crowds head for the numerous stores to buy souvenirs, as well as to the various kiosks in the food court for a snack. The menu ranges from tapioca with sun-dried meat to boiled green corn, a wide variety of options and all made with great care. Nearby, in the parking lot with several tourist buses, the drivers are waiting for their passengers to return to the hotel.
And little by little the place empties out, until the next day's show.

Our rating
Travel at any time of the year (between September and January is dry season, heavy rains can occur in the other months, but as fast as they are there, they disappear again) and a stay of several days is recommended. Praia do Jacaré, Cabedelo, about 15 km away is mandatory program.
